Depending upon the cause of temporomandibular joint pain, the therapy intervenes with the chewing apparatus. Usually this is done using an individually manufactured brace to relieve the temporomandibular joint and allow it the freedom to find the recreated quiescent position again.
In rarer cases, the pain and muscle strain can be treated with drugs before brace therapy can be successfully completed.
The cause of temporomandibular joint pain does not always lie directly in the joint. It can also be due to stress or other factors that strain the surrounding musculature.
