As a goal of an orthodontic treatment, the perfect smile always stands apart from good function. Pronounced skeletal bad positions (bad bone positions) can be corrected, however, not exclusively with a tooth brace. If the lower jaw is too large or the upper jaw too small, the central face is underdeveloped or the chin too prominent, we work with different mouth, jaw and face surgeons together.
With the so-called “combined orthodontic/jaw surgery treatment” there is pre-treatment first with a fixed brace, then the surgical adjustment takes place on one or both jaws via an operation.
The operation takes place under full anaesthetic and the patient must stay approximately three days in the hospital for further treatment. The fixed brace remains in the mouth during the OP and after the OP for micro-adjustment.
Substantial improvements to the face profile and the tooth position can be achieved within a short time using an OP. The OP usually causes little pain or is completely pain-free.
